Iris melanoma

Iris melanomas are rare. Most are located in the inferior (i.e., lower) part of the iris.

These tumours can be:

  • nodular or diffuse
  • smooth or irregular
  • black, grey, brown, tan, yellow, pink or white.

Complications

These include:

  • spread around the angle to cause glaucoma
  • extension to the ciliary body
  • pressure on the lens to cause astigmatism and cataract
  • band keratopathy from contact with cornea
  • extraocular spread
  • systemic metastases, which are rare.
