Neurilemmoma

This is a rare, benign tumour occurring in the uveal tract. Most occur in anterior uvea.

The tumour can grow very large to cause retinal detachment and a painful eye.

The clinical appearances are very similar to those of malignant melanoma. Although neurilemmomas are usually amelanotic, the overlying pigment epithelium may give a false impression of pigmentation.

ciliary-body-neurilemmoma

Ciliary body neurilemmoma. The tumour itself was amelanotic.
